The catholic University of Leuven focuses on mechatronics. Mechatronics engineer is responsible for accurate and efficient realization of movements of machinery, equipment and robots.

Robotsystems

One often wants mechatronic systems, robotic systems to function autonomously in an uncertain environment (eg a Mars Explorer). To achieve this, the machine features are supplemented with "intelligent" sensor processing based on the raw input from various sensors (force, vision, distance, etc.). Moreover, robots have much more extensive programming capabilities, which in principle allow greater flexibility. A major challenge is to let robots interact with people in a safe and intelligent way.
